Today we learned about the desert and the corresponding craft was making a cactus! I found an easy dough recipe online and halved it because that’s all we needed! Below is what you need for the dough, along with the measurements!
Easy Dough Recipe
3 cups flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/3 cup olive oil
3/4 cup of warm water
Mix all of the ingredients together until the mixture holds together and will roll into a ball while barely sticky. Add either water or flour to get desired texture!
Obviously, you can’t forget the crazy children that the craft is for.
Ivy is a hot mess.
Then, you’ll need to prep the cactus accessories! We used dried rice and broken up bits of spaghetti noodles but really, you could get as creative as you wanted to! I let the kids put food coloring on the dough – although most of the dye ended up on my hands and didn’t blend into the dough very well. Oh well, you live and you learn.
Then, get to work on decorating!
You can probably imagine how much rice and spaghetti noodles are currently covering my kitchen floor. But on the plus side, I got about 10 minutes of peace and quiet while they busily put together their cactuses. Small victories right?
